NMFC codes & freight class
Find the item number for your commodity, check its class, or work out density-based class from your pallet dimensions. The wrong class is the #1 cause of LTL re-bills.
01 / DENSITY CALCULATOR
What class is my pallet?
Estimate based on density only, on the NMFC 13-step scale in effect since July 19, 2025. Measure the greatest length, width and height including the pallet and any overhang; weight includes the pallet. Items with handling, stowability or liability provisions and hazmat can take a different class. Confirm the NMFC item with dispatch before booking.
02 / ITEM LOOKUP
Common Bay Area commodities
ITEM NUMBERS AS OF NMFC DOCKET 2025-1. ITEMS AND CLASSES CHANGE WITH NMFC DOCKETS, CONFIRM WITH DISPATCH BEFORE BOOKING.
03 / DENSITY → CLASS
The 13-step density scale
Heavier and denser means a lower class and a lower rate. Density is pounds per cubic foot, including the pallet. NMFC scale in effect since July 19, 2025.
