01 / WHAT WE MOVE
The short move between the port and your dock
Drayage is the truck move of a shipping container between a port or rail terminal and a warehouse, the first or last few miles of an ocean shipment. Moved on time, the box leaves the terminal before demurrage and per diem start to add up.
- Import containers to your warehouse or DC
- Export loads back to the terminal
- Rail containers to and from the yard
- Boxes headed for transload
- Overweight containers on tri-axle chassis
- Empties returned to the terminal or depot

05 / WHEN TIMING MATTERS
Where drayage saves you money
Most drayage costs come from waiting, not driving. These are the four places a well-timed move pays off.
- 01
Before the last free day
Pulling the box in time keeps terminal storage fees off the invoice.
- 02
Before per diem starts
Returning the empty quickly stops the line from charging for its equipment.
- 03
When appointments are short
A pre-pull to the yard means a missing slot does not become a fee.
- 04
When the freight goes further
Transloading into a 53' van frees the container and moves the freight in one trip.
06 / DRAYAGE LANES
Where the boxes go
One-way miles from the Port of Oakland. Transit is the usual delivery day after the container is available.

Your rate depends on four things
Chassis, yard and appointment fees are listed on the quote before the box is pulled.
Terminal and destination
Which terminal the box sits at and how far it goes from there.
Container type and weight
Size, high cube or not, and whether it needs a tri-axle chassis.
Live or drop
A driver waiting at your dock prices differently from a drop and pick.

10 / DRAYAGE QUESTIONS
Straight answers
Don’t see yours? Add it to your quote request and a dispatcher will reply.
What is drayage?
Drayage is the short truck move of a shipping container between a port or rail terminal and a warehouse. At the Port of Oakland it covers pulling the loaded container, delivering it to your dock or our yard, and returning the empty before per diem starts.
What do you need to book a container?
The container number, the terminal, the delivery address and the date you need it. If there is a hold, send the release as soon as you have it.
Can you pre-pull before my delivery date?
Yes. We pull the box to a secured yard before the last free day and deliver when your dock is ready. Yard storage is quoted per day up front.
Who returns the empty?
We do. The driver returns the empty to the terminal or depot the line assigns and sends you the interchange.
Do you handle overweight containers?
Yes, on tri-axle chassis. Tell us the gross weight when you book so we send the right equipment.
What about demurrage and per diem?
We track both and tell you before a fee starts, not after. Fees charged by the terminal or the line are passed through at cost.
